DS2 joined other local engineers and scientists at the Northwest Florida Fairground as volunteer judges for the 2020 East Panhandle Regional Science and Engineering Fair.
Students from across Okaloosa and Walton county fielded approximately 200 projects across the engineering and science disciplines, including projects on physics, biology, computational mechanics, environmental engineering, and cognitive systems. The judges reviewed each project for how well-formed their research question was, the design and methodology of their experiment or engineering solution, the execution of the project, the creativity of their project design, and how well the students presented their project.
The volunteer judges from DS2 were amazed with the quality of preparation by the students and how appreciative the students were of the volunteers. Some of the projects that surprised and impressed the judges from DS2 included 3D printing Omnipod cases and testing their strength, how changes in electromagnetic fields can affect honeybees, and a Python project that quickly and efficiently processes increasingly difficult mathematical problems. DS2 would like to thank Chris, Kelcey, Keith, Todd, and Rich for volunteering for this event and to extend a big congratulations to the all the students who participated, especially the category winners and those who qualified for the International Science and Engineering Fair, the Florida State Science and Engineering Fair, and the Broadcom MASTERS. Keep up the excellent work!

Congratulations to all 2022 East Panhandle Engineering & Science Fair Participants!
On February 2, 2022, DS2 joined engineering professionals from the local area to volunteer as judges for the 2022 East Panhandle Engineering & Science Fair, taking place at the Northwest Florida Fairgrounds.
Inaugural FIRST® Tech Challenge AeroCoast League Championship Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) projects.
DS2 was asked to evaluate and judge each of the 13 participating teams and selecting the teams that best displayed the use of the engineering process, community engagement and support of STEM projects.
DS2 extends a warm welcome to our summer interns! Our interns, Jadyn, Charles, Anthony, and Joshua, are all local students with experience ranging from recent high school graduates to university students at the University of West Florida and Northwest Florida State College.
Flashback to one of DS2’s Modeling and Simulation projects: the Virtual Reality (VR) Volumetric Mixer!
This project consisted of refurbishing and replacing old radio housing from CONUS and OCONUS locations. Repeated communication and coordination between CONUS and OCONUS locations was required to enable shipment of their radio equipment, rapid assembly, and return of the newly constructed RADAS radio hardware to its home base ready for its next operational tasks.
DS2 is developing a plug-in to the Android Tactical Assault Kit (ATAK) platform that integrates with the Air Force’s Geospatial Expeditionary Planning Tool (GeoExPT).
