Fisher House and Jennifer Nelson: All You Need is Love and a Good Teammate

On February 13th, DS2 attended the All You Need is Love and a Good Teammate event as a Bronze Sponsor, in support of the Fisher House of the Emerald Coast.

The event featured Jennifer Nelson, wife of wounded warrior Captain Nate Nelson, USAF, Ret., discussing her experience with Fisher House after a rocket blast injured Nate while deployed in Afghanistan. Jennifer recounted her journey with Nate, from their early time dating and their marriage, to being woken up at 6 AM to the news of Nate’s injuries while 6 months pregnant, to him finally being able to be transported to the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center after stabilizing. Jennifer spoke of the relief and comfort Fisher House provided during the chaos and turmoil of Nate’s recovery at Walter Reed: the Bethesda Fisher House took Jennifer in and gave her a fully furnished, private living space 5 minutes from the hospital, for approximately two months at no cost to her.

DS2 would like to thank the Fisher House of the Emerald Coast, both for inviting us to attend this event and for their devotion to aiding the families of wounded warriors in their time of need. We would also like to thank Jennifer Nelson, for sharing her experience with us, and Nate Nelson, for his service and continued involvement in our community.
