DS2 supported TEKLA Research in advancing the Navy’s Rapid Large Area Clearance (RLAC) program, a key initiative focused on demonstrating autonomous multi‑UAS technologies for detecting and identifying unexploded ordnance (UXO).
Under a subcontract with TEKLA, DS2 developed a custom WinTAK plugin that enables operators to plan engagements using target data, available assets, and recommended action sequences generated by RLAC’s decision‑aid algorithms. Our software integrates seamlessly with a TAK Server to deliver mapping and visualization of critical geospatial datasets across all connected devices. This gives operators a shared operational picture, allowing them to review detected targets, assign appropriate assets, and generate an optimized action plan.
A central component of our work was the Engagement Planner, an interface that guides mission planners through the required steps to build and validate an action plan. The color‑coded task list helps users quickly identify items requiring attention—such as unreviewed, non‑confirmed, confirmed, generated, or reviewed elements—ensuring efficient and accurate workflow progression. Additional menus allow planners to define mission zones, analyze targets, and outline mitigation paths.
DS2’s contribution improved planning efficiency, enhanced situational awareness, and strengthened the RLAC program’s ability to coordinate autonomous UAS operations in support of safe and effective UXO identification.
