The destructive nature of war and natural disasters demands a high degree of skill and flexibility from the Civil Engineering (CE) force during emergency response and recovery operations. CE units must maintain contingency response and recovery capabilities to restore airbase operations, save lives, alleviate human suffering, and minimize damage during and after a crisis incident on or near the installation. This mission brings with it stress, complexity, and critical decision-making challenges. Increasingly, the mission calls for multi-capable Airmen who can swiftly adapt to changing circumstances and react promptly.

Now, imagine a tool that revolutionizes how these Airmen approach critical tasks, enhancing efficiency and decision-making like never before. We're excited to announce a significant advancement in our R&D efforts: the development of a Copilot Intelligent Assistant that leverages AI, Large Language Models (LLM), and Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG). This innovative tool provides Airmen with insightful and cognitive suggestions, specifically tailored to career fields such as the AFCEC Airfield Damage Assessment, Repair, and Beddown Processes. Grounded in USAF regulation data, including AFPAM, AFI, DAFMAN, and TTPs, this assistant is set to transform emergency response and recovery operations.

Key Benefits of the Copilot Intelligent Assistant:

  • Enhanced Decision-Making: By leveraging comprehensive USAF regulation data, our assistant provides Airmen with precise and actionable insights, ensuring compliance and efficiency in critical operations.

  • Streamlined Processes: The model aids in the AFCEC Airfield Damage Assessment, Repair, and Beddown Processes, offering cognitive suggestions that streamline workflows and improve response times.

  • Interactive Engagement: The assistant is designed to engage users with follow-up questions related to its responses, fostering detailed thought processes and deeper understanding of the tasks at hand.

For instance, during airfield damage repair, our assistant can provide real-time suggestions based on the AFPAM10-219 guidance. This tool is a game-changer for the DoD, empowering Airmen with the knowledge and support they need to excel in their missions.
